Nicholas Rolle (Ph.D., UC Berkeley, 2018) joined Princeton in 2024, after holding a research position in Berlin, Germany. His interests are in phonology, morphology, and their interface with other components of grammar, with an empirical commitment to the languages of Africa (in particular Sierra Leone and Nigeria). His main specialization is tone, and other suprasegmental properties of speech.

Prof. Rolle has published in some of the field’s best journals, including Natural Language & Linguistic Theory, Linguistic Inquiry, Phonology, Morphology, Phonological Data & Analysis, and Linguistic Typology.
