Program in Linguistics
Gretchen McCulloch is a linguist who explains internet language to internet people. This talk combines the two — what she learned about effective communication by writing for The Toast, Slate, her blog All Things Linguistic, and for an upcoming book on internet language with Penguin, with examples from the world of internet linguistics, such as the stylized language of animal memes and the communicative function of emoji.
