John (Jack) Merrill (Ph.D., UC Berkeley, 2018) joined the Program in Linguistics as a lecturer in Spring 2020. His research focuses on historical linguistics and language documentation, particularly of West African languages. Jack has written and presented on the synchronic and diachronic analysis of noun class and consonant mutation systems, and has carried out fieldwork on the Sereer, Noon, and Kobiana languages.
